Arriving at Pho Bo Hue/到阿惠:

Easy to miss. Look for the sign on the side walk.
路邊的扛棒小塊,容易錯過。


Menu/菜單:

Pho Bo/Beef Noodle/牛肉河粉
This dish is house specialty. The broth is authentic and heavy. This kind of quality if hard to find even in Vietnam. In Kaohsiung Takao, this dish normally costs NT$80. It is only NT$60 here, even after they jacked up the price.
這是招牌菜。湯頭濃醇而厚。就算在越南,也很難找得到這種品質的湯頭。這碗在高雄打狗的行情是80大洋,但在這裡只要60。根本就是來亂行情的。零北猜可能是自家的店面,免房租。

Bun Mang/Duck and Bamboo Shoots Noodle/鴨肉竹筍:
口味道地的越南味。粉對零北死忠的古早味。講究養生的死臺巴子可能會嫌油膩。

Bun Thit Nuong/Grilled Pork Thin Noodle/燒肉麵線:
This dish is relatively light.
偏好輕食者可以考慮這道菜。

From Inside:

We heard that this place had just been recommended by a TV program. There was a line up when we arriving at around 2 PM. Our waiting time was about 15 minutes.

The hostess was modest: she kept apologizing for our long wait;
The hostess was proud: she refused our reservation and down payment.

聽說最近剛被食尚玩家報導,要排隊。我們剛到時,有些人不想排隊,就落跑了。我們快下午兩點才到,等了約15分鐘。

老闆娘很謙虛:一直為我們的久候抱歉;
老闆娘很跩:不接受預約,先給她錢都不收。

  1. Such kind of Viet beef rice-noodle usually costs Cdn$5 (which is about NT$140) in Toronto/Canada.

    I'm just curious if it tastes better than Toronto's

    1. I would say they are so different that you should give it a shot and decide for yourself.

      Pho Bo, or "Viet beef rice-noodle", in North America is very different from the rest of the world. The main difference is the beef. North American beef is much fattier than Vietnamese. In Vietnam, beef is freaking lean with almost no fat at all. North American beef is also very tender and juicy, whereas Vietnamese chewy. The free veggie served in TO is a lot more than in Vietnam, too.

      This particular restaurant is more authentic than those in TO, with thicker and heavier broth, but with very lean beef, and without veggie plate.

      Personally, I am more used to Pho Bo ala North American. Some of my friends consider North American Pho Bo rules.
